The difference between insane and personality corruption.

It seems with every shooting there is some talking head or legal eagle calling the perpetrator "insane". The circular reasoning goes like this: This act was so evil only someone who was not in their right mind could have done it. Someone did it, so they must not be in their right mind.  I'm not interested in discussing the legal definition and connecting punishment for insanity but to bring up a different thought.

Shooters and serial killers are not insane but have what I call personality corruption. The main difference between the two is the connection of cause and effect. Those that are insane do not have the connectivity between a cause and the effect while those with personality corruption do make that connection but twist it.
For example, if the the personality corruption person gets sick they may blame and hate their co-workers calling them ungrateful and inconsiderate for making HIM sick. The person who is truly insane would get sick and blame the evil government for irradiating his nachos or blame Sheetz for poisoning him because they are out to get him.  When there is murder involved the truly insane person will say something like, I didn't kill a man, I killed an alien. I would never harm a human being. And that is true- they would never hurt another human being. Too bad his cousin Joe was human but an alien. There is no reasoning with someone who is insane.

On the other hand, the person with personality corruption has become so bent away from things like compassion, understanding, empathy and logic they cling to over exaggerated slights. Anything from not responding to a text fast enough to getting cut off on the highway to not winning the lottery. The person with personality corruption disorder has several traits:
1. They become an 'injustice collector'. They can recite people, places and issues from years gone by and they take them out and relive them when it becomes convenient.
2. They view letting things go as being weak and not standing up for yourself.
3. They have an inflated view of their own importance. It is because they are so important that makes the offense so great.
4. The have a sense of powerlessness and options. People who feel like their life is going somewhere, have hope for the future and good stuff going on are less likely to "sweat the small stuff" like someone taking their parking spaces. Conversely, the person with personality corruption feels at the end of their rope,  with nothing good happening and they need to hold onto whatever nice or good thing that has happened and that person just took it away.
5. The often see themselves as victims. They were bullied or ignored or people didn't treat them right or someone or something is out to get them. Whereas most people understand, for example, police give out parking tickets to anyone and everyone the person with personality corruption believes the cop has treated him unfairly, that he is the victim of an over zealous ticketer.
