CHICAGO (CBS) — A male Chicago FBI employee is suing the agency, alleging gender discrimination.
As WBBM Newsradio's Mike Krauser reports, Jay Bauer, a Northwestern University doctoral graduate, joined the FBI in 2009 as an intelligence analyst.
His lawsuit contends the agency's fitness test is biased against men. In the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by WBBM Newsradio, says he was required to do 30 push-ups. He managed 29, but says a woman taking the test got a second chance.

Bauer says he scored at or near the top of his class at everything from firearms training to academics, and filled other requirements for men — completing 38 sit-ups in one minute, sprinting 300 meters in 52.4 seconds, and running 1.5 miles in 12 minutes, 24 seconds.
But he says he had to resign from special agent training over the one missed push-up.
Bauer's attorneys claim that the FBI fitness standards are harder for men than women, since women only have to complete 14 untimed push-ups — the equivalent of 27 to 29 for men.
Bauer had sought to settle the case with an administrative law judge, but took the fight to federal court after concluding he wasn't getting a fair hearing, the Tribune reported.
An FBI spokeswoman said the agency does not typically comment on pending litigation, according to the Tribune.

I'm not sure how I feel about this. While it's true that women are (traditionally) weaker in upper body strength then men, is it fair to give them a second chance but not him?

This guy joined the FBI in 2009. Didn't he know and KEEP UP with the fitness requirements? I mean, if your job depended on meeting some certification or testing, wouldn't you do what you had to do to meet that requirement?

Also, the guy is in the FBI to be an intelligence analyst. Shouldn't he be given an IQ test instead?

It does sound like he's whining a bit but if it was your livelihood and something that you loved and aspired to wouldn't you fight for it? Especially if you'd been there since 2009 and did good in all the other areas?

Review of Mercy - Message is that AI can't be trusted

 I wanted to review this movie because it intersects crime, crime prevention, evidence, justice and how justice is blind or should be...or shouldn't  be.   One of the most  chilling opening lines is " Mercy does not make mistakes".  It allows for the average citizen to develop a hands off, everything's fine attitude toward criminal justice.  The story takes place over a course of  a 90 minute trial where the protagonist Chris Raven, a police detective is accused of murdering his estranged wife. The evidence presented is both current events over the last 12 hours before the murder and also historical evidence of video clips, text messages sent by his now deceased wife Nicole.  The story unfolds with plots twists and turns and we come to find out that Chris is simply not a noble, likable character with a history of violent outbursts, drinking and relapse.  In the end we find out, no surprise that Chris is innocent of the charge, the comput...
