Review of The Housemaid

The Housemaid was a surprise. You thought it was going to be a typical, nanny seduces husband, threatens family tranquility and throw in a psychotic bitch for a wife and you're done.
This was a study in domestic abuse, narcissistic behavior, weaponizing the courts, police, mental health and the community. 
Without going into the whole plotline, Nina,  the mother is the first victim of some pretty deep psychological control and abuse using the child as a hostage and future attacks to control behavior right now. 
Although it is only a movie, it highlights the idea there is more than one type of abuse. 
The turn around, revenge type of punishment dished out to the abuser was.... difficult. It really doesn't happen that way and as much as you'd like to say..."He deserved it" it's a revenge fantasy that never comes to pass. The movie doesn't show the long work of healing, therapy, and reclaiming a life.

 After watching another episode of Criminal Minds, this one involving a mentally unbalanced, 20 something incest and abuse survivor who was killing suitors that turned out to be less than perfect, I had to comment.  In the show, the FBI shows up while the girl has a pair of gardening shears in her hand, is about to stab another victim who is already bleeding from a head wound and the FBI ( Reed ) talks her out of a violent act by engaging in her delusion.  She willingly gets in the vehicle and off they go... I've seen this before as I'm sure you have.  In the movies or TV shows, the bad guy is about to engage in a violent act which would potentially kill the person they're involved with whether it's a stabbing or shooting.  This is not a potential or possible or imminent threat, but an active threat, that's about to happen.  The law enforcement personal will then yell " Drop the gun/knife" several times, will try to talk them into giving up or surrendering...

Review of You Can't Make This Stuff Up by Mike the Cop

  You Can't Make This Stuff Up by Mike the Cop c.2018 124 pages This book was a collection of short stories of officers in their various encounters with suspects.  These encounters span the range from DUI's, traffics stops, aggressive individuals, domestic violence calls and humorous encounters with fellow officers.  If you've never read any stories of law enforcement and what they deal with on a day to day basis, this is a good book. Easy to read, quick stories, no long back stories or " how it all worked out" but after awhile it gets almost repetitive.  You almost begin to ask yourself " another story of someone with something shoved up their ass?" or " another story of drunk/drugged person acting stupid?".  By the end of the book you get the sense of " Yeah, we get it, they deal with some really weird shit".  Worth a read from the dollar bin or a loaner from the library.

My cat is demanding! What we can learn about stalking behaviors. If you have cat, you'll recognize this behavior.  When the cat is hungry is will meow, nudge your legs and make a general nuisance of himself until you open that can.  You try to ignore the cat....you pet the cat... you tell it you'll feed it in a few minutes but nothing works.  The cat keeps trying... After the 10th time of coming to you, you finally give in and feed the cat. What has the cat learned ?  It takes 10 encounters for you to give in.  So the cat learns , the first 9 are going to be ignored and it's the 10th time is the sweet spot. Stalkers learn the same way. If they leave 9 messages and they are ignored and you respond on the 10th one, what have they learned? It takes 10 times to get a response out of you.  And it might not be just a text message. It might be 3 text messages, 3 notes on your car, 2 emails, 5 phone calls before you finally give in and say " Stop contacting me!" So...
